About makeqr.io

What this is

makeqr.io is a free QR code generator that runs entirely in your browser. There's no signup, no email collection, no watermark on your downloads, and no ads anywhere on the page. Encode URLs, Instagram profiles, plain text, phone numbers, SMS, and Wi-Fi credentials.

The QR codes generated here are static — they encode your data directly into the pattern, so they never expire and they keep working as long as the underlying destination does.

What you can encode

  • URL — links to any web page, profile, or app deep link.
  • Instagram — point straight to a profile by handle.
  • Text — plain text up to several thousand characters.
  • Phone — tap-to-call with tel:.
  • SMS — open the messaging app with a pre-filled recipient and body.
  • Wi-Fi — auto-connect with SSID, password, and encryption.

How to make a QR code

  1. Pick a content type at the top — URL is the most common.
  2. Type or paste your data into the field. The QR updates as you type.
  3. Optionally style it — choose foreground and background colors, pick a dot pattern.
  4. Download as SVG (best for print) or PNG (best for screens).

Export & style

  • SVG — lossless vector. Scales infinitely. Best for print, signage, packaging.
  • PNG at 512, 1024, and 2048 px — pick a size that matches the destination.
  • Custom colors — pick any foreground and background to match your brand.
  • Four patterns — square, rounded, dots, or classy.
  • Live preview — every keystroke updates the QR instantly.
  • Privacy-first — generation runs in your browser; we never see your data.
FAQ

Common questions

Are the QR codes really free?

Yes. Every feature is free — no signup, no premium tier, and no watermark on the QR codes you download. The SVG and PNG files are yours to use however you'd like, including commercially.

Do these QR codes ever expire?

No. The QR codes generated here are static — they encode your data directly into the pattern. They keep working forever, as long as the destination (URL, network, etc.) is still valid.

Can I use these QR codes commercially?

Absolutely. There are no usage restrictions. Print them on packaging, business cards, posters, restaurant menus, signage, products — anywhere you like.

Does makeqr.io track me or my QR data?

The site uses Google Analytics for basic visit metrics, but the QR generation runs entirely in your browser. Your input never reaches any server because there is no server handling the QR data.

Should I download SVG or PNG?

SVG is a vector format that stays sharp at any size — best for print, signage, business cards, and anywhere the size might change. PNG is a raster image at a fixed pixel size — best when you need a specific resolution or your software does not support SVG.

How do I make a Wi-Fi QR code?

Pick the Wi-Fi tab, enter your network name (SSID) and password, and choose the encryption type. WPA/WPA2 is the most common. The QR code can then be scanned by most modern phones to connect to the network automatically.

Can I add a logo to the center?

Logo overlay is on the roadmap. For now, makeqr.io focuses on producing clean, highly-scannable QR codes with custom colors and dot patterns. Adding a center image will arrive in a future update.

Will the QR still work if I change colors?

Yes, as long as there's enough contrast between the foreground (the dots) and the background. Dark dots on a light background scan most reliably. Always test scan it before printing — especially with custom colors.
